Day 8&9 – 25th March

26th March 2020

I have no idea where the time has gone. I seem to have missed a day.

What I do remember is that yesterday, being Tuesday, the Locality hubs went live. These are the one stop shop operated by Connected Communities for the duration of this national emergency.

If you need assistance please use the following numbers at the end.

These will also be a our hosts for emergency food boxes. As many of our existing partners close due to social distancing requirements North Ayrshire Foodbank will work exclusively with the hubs for emergency food boxes. We thank everybody who have issued these boxes over the years and wish them a time of staying healthy and allowing the hubs to take the strain.
The Foodbank received more helping hands from North Ayrshire Council s staff and we “battered” our way through the sorting of the Christmas donations and packing them into boxes for  delivery to the hubs.

Whilst that was happening Jason and his team continued on their task of making the ready meals. Not only that they managed time to keep the NAC staff and our volunteers fed.

We received quite a lot of food from closing facilities. The ones I remember, and apologies to those missing from this list, were Sandylands, KFC and McDonalds. The items donated did NOT include any secret ingredients, but they will all no doubt be “ finger licking good”.

Our thanks to to Kilwinning Academy and other donors for their generosity. The funds received will make it easier to operate at a time of additional work. We will honour those donations to ensure we feed as many people as possible through our partners.

Today, Wednesday, we continued the work of  sorting, packing and cooking more meals. We cannot thank North Ayrshire Council enough for making the work of the Foodbank possible. Their financial and practical assistance is seeing tons of food being prepared and stationed across the local authority area ready to be called upon. Sainsburys Saltcoats and Asda Irvine are owed a huge thanks for the donation of carrier bags. We were running low and realised we could not appeal for bags in case they were infected. Thus pristine bags were need. Thank you both.

Another day closes. So time to rest. Please follow the Governments guidance and stay well.
