The farming community, as well as individual plot holders at allotments and community gardens across North Ayrshire, will be working hard to reap the benefits of their year long work. Harvesting. A time of community celebration and thanksgiving. Schools, churches, community groups as well as households will hold events to acknowledge our gratitude for all of the hard work and the blessings of nature (including the animals and insects who contribute to this success). It’s also a time to reflect upon those less fortunate within our societies. In biblical times there were harvesting rules called gleaming. This allowed those without land to bring in crops around the edges of the field after the landowner had completed his/her work. In this modern age such opportunities are rare and we now donated tins and packet food at our communal celebrations.
If you are hosting such an event and could/would organise a food drive the Foodbank would appreciate being your partner to get the food out to those facing food insecurity. Enjoy your event and have a great time.
